01About the Event
The İLKE Foundation invites you to a discussion titled "The Future of Al-Aqsa Mosque: Confronting the Zionist Threat" with Khalid Al-Awaisi, a Palestinian academic on Islamic Jerusalem. This seminar will provide a brief historical overview but will primarily focus on the present and future of Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa Mosque, especially in the context of the ongoing genocide in Gaza and Donald Trump’s ethnic cleansing plan.
We will discuss the following issues and more:
- The current situation of Al-Aqsa in the context of the ongoing genocide in Gaza
- The evolution of Status of Al-Aqsa Mosque's status over the decades, particularly under Israeli occupation
- The role of Muslim-majority countries in defending Al-Aqsa and their effectivenes in countering Zionist threats
- The influence of global politics in shaping the current threats to Al-Aqsa and Al-Quds
Speaker:
Khalid Al- Awaisi
Dr. Khalid El-Awaisi is a graduate of the pioneering field of Islamicjerusalem Studies, having received his PhD from the University of Aberdeen (2006). His main specialisation is the historical geography of Bayt al-Maqdis/Islamicjerusalem and the geographical interpretations of the Qur’an. He has taught at a number of Turkish and British universities and was appointed as the director of the Centre of Islamicjerusalem Studies in the UK (2007-2011). Currently, he is working at the Department of Islamic History at the Social Sciences University of Ankara (ASBU).
